Books and movies

While no movies are being released in 2022, there are some that are in active development that we may get more information about as the year goes on but that doesn’t mean that movie-hungry Star Trek fans are out of luck. This year will be the year of the book and comic, however.

IDW Comic’s

IDW will be highlighting various aliens in the Star Trek canon that they feel have gone underrepresented in their alien spotlight miniseries. The first issue, Star Trek: Klingons, is coming out in February. There are several other comics currently being produced by IDW, including a series about the Mirror Universe, but the alien spotlight series won’t be the only one new as there’s going to be a four-issue series surrounding secondary characters from Star Trek: Discovery, called Adventures in the 32nd Century, though no release date has been given. Expect it in the first quarter of 2022.

Star Trek: Picard: Second Self

On May 15, 2022, fans will be able to buy Star Trek: Picard: Second Self a new novel by Una McCormack that will focus on events that will help contextualize the series and explain some points that weren’t covered in the first season of the show, all while taking Jean-Luc Picard and the rest of the cast on a brand new adventure.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture Director’s Edition 4K

Like with the rest, there is no release date for the upcoming Star Trek: The Motion PIcture re-release, but fans should be excited by this. The film is the original director’s cut truly as you’ve never seen it. The movie has been remastered and touched up, improving it to 4K and giving fans a new experience.
