Star Trek has announced series news for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and others.

It was announced today that Star Trek: Discovery was getting a fifth season after many conversations about the show’s future and it possibly ending after season four. That isn’t the case, as the fifth season for Discovery is a go. That’s not the only other show to get new season orders, however, as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is among the shows getting more seasons

Strange New Worlds hasn’t even debuted yet. This is part of a trend that ViacomCBS has had with all of their shows, save for Discovery, where a series gets a new season order before the prior season’s airing. Another show that got renewed for another season before their season even started is Lower Decks, which is awaiting its third season to begin airing in 2022.

Yet they’ve been greenlit for a fourth season which will begin production soon. The only show that didn’t get announced for new seasons was Picard, and it’s very likely that’s because it could end after season three.

Star Trek also announced premiere dates.

Beyond the announcement of new seasons, Star Trek’s Picard and Strange New Worlds have officially gotten release dates for their second and inaugural seasons respectively. Picard will debut on March 3, after Prodigy and Discovery are done airing and then Strange New Worlds will follow suit and start airing after that, on May 5.

They really missed the opportunity to stick it to those Star Wars dorks by not putting it on May 4. Jokes aside, the fact that Star Trek is looking to sew up any loose threads in their streaming schedule, and making sure a series is airing practically every week is pretty smart.

The shows will keep Trek in the mind of all the fans, but the variety could help fans from developing burnout of the franchise.
