Star Trek: Picard is slated to end at the conclusion of season three.
Patrick Stewart, who portrays Admiral Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: Picard, won’t continue the role after season three of the series. Because of that, the announcement has already been made that the series will come to a close. There are plenty of fans that are enjoying this new iteration of Star Trek and see the potential for many more stories even if they’re told without the current star of the series. One of those ways would be to bring in another actor to headline the show, namely the admiral’s former wife, Dr. Beverly Crusher.
Yes, I know they weren’t married in reality, but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen off-screen, thereby changing Dr. Crusher’s name to Dr. Picard or better yet, Captain Picard. Gates Mcadden, the actress who portrayed the capable doctor aboard the Enterprise, has already expressed interest in taking on this role, and if you think about it, it makes sense.
Dr. Beverly Crusher is already part of the Star Trek: Picard story.
Dr. Crusher and Picard were in love for so many years. Most likely, the feelings have remained. The admiral hasn’t married, even though he had plenty of options after he left Starfleet. That leaves the door wide open for McFadden to guest star next season and set the scene for a revamped Picard series with her at the helm.
So what would happen to Admiral Picard if the two married? A simple but effective explanation would be he remains behind at the chauteau or focuses his attentions elsewhere at Starfleet while his wife traverses the galaxy with Raffi back in service with Starfleet, Seven of Nine serving aboard the new ship just as she did on Voyager, and Captain Rios her second in command. Dr. Jurati, if she’s not serving time in the brig, could become the new ship’s doctor. Soji, of course, would fit perfectly aboard the ship just like Data. After all, she is her father’s daughter.
There would be some bumps along the way, which would make the show more interesting. I could see Raffi clashing with the new Captain Picard, and Rios not altogether happy with his second in command position. Plenty of explanations would have to be made, but the Star Trek universe is vast. Surely there is room for another Captain Picard in Starfleet.
