Star Trek fans will be getting Worf and the rest Next Generation cast back for Picard.

Fans were surprised by the news recently that Star Trek: Picard not only had a third season trailer ready to launch but that it actually came out; all while season two was still airing. We’ll talk more about that decision later, but in the interim, it’s fair to say that it was quite the surprise. Mostly due to the fact that the Next Generation cast will be included. All surviving characters will be involved, some of whom we’ve seen already (Will Riker, Data, Deanna Troi) but we’ll see the rest in season three; Geordi La Forge, Dr. Beverly Crusher, and of course, Worf.

Now, the addition of Worf is going to be a rather interesting addition, namely because Bad Robot and co. messed up how the Klingons looked in Star Trek: Into Darkness. This carried over to the television series, and in turn that has caused many fans to wonder what the Klingons are going to look like in Picard; should we see them.

Picard is the first live-action show since Star Trek: Discovery, to bring back the Klingons. The Klingons in Discovery looked just like the Into Darkness ones, and now many are worried that when Worf pops up on Picard, he may look like that.

Fear not, says Picard executive producer Terry Matalas.

The designs of the Nu Trek Klingons aren’t bad in a vacuum. If they were a whole new alien race, they’d be awesome. They’re not, and their re-design really made Trek fans angry, and rightfully so. The previous look was iconic. These, not so much.

What about Worf as a character in Picard?

During the impromptu Q & A on Twitter, Matalas was asked if the Dominion War would have any residual effects on The Federation and more specifically; Worf. Matalas wasn’t ready to answer this just yet, but it does appear that Worf’s time being tortured, losing his wife, and being all involved in the Klingon politics of it all will in fact play into the new season.

This is an exciting announcement but one that comes during the mid-way point of season two and I can’t say that it’s not disconcerting that they jumped the end of the season with this way-too-early announcement.
