Star Trek: Deep Space Nine has a surprising character as the ultimate fan favorite.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine remains one of the most popular and well-respected shows in Star Trek’s canon. The show started out as a story between Benjamin Sisko and his son Jake, while Benjamin took the reigns as the new commander of Deep Space Nine. It evolved into a war story that really built on the lore of the universe and brought these characters to new heights.

To say they had a huge selection of characters to like would be a massive understatement. There was Rom, the good-natured but slightly lacking Ferengi bartender. There was Odo, the dry shapeshifter who kept the space station in line. There was Dr. Julian Bashir, the young augmented physician who was always looking for a grander adventure.

That’s three, of maybe three dozen options. Even the villains were insanely likable and were the perfect foils for the heroes. Gul Dukat remains one of the more talked about villains in all of Star Trek history.

Yet, none of them; not Worf, Garak, Jadzia, or even Miles O’Brien himself got the nod as Slashfilm’s most popular character from the show.

That honor goes to Quark.

Quark named Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s most popular character

Quark being the most popular character is a surprise. The survey SlashFilm did include 619 people, so it’s not exactly like it was everyone who’s ever seen the show but it’s a fair sample size. Quark isn’t a bad pick but it’s a bit surprising he was picked.

The other names on the list included Odo (who came in second), Kira Nerys (third), Benjamin Sisko (fourth), Miles O’Brien (fifth), and shockingly, Garak (sixth).

It’s rather surprising as I figured that Garek wouldn’t have been on the list at all, let alone last. I always thought Garak and Dukat were among the most popular characters, simply for how they played the roles were played so well by Andrew Robinson and Marc Alaimo.

So that’s SlashFilm’s pick for most popular. Who is yours?
