Star Trek: Picard recently announced the return of Star Trek: The Next Generation characters.

Star Trek: Picard season three is shaping up to be an exciting end to the series with the return of familiar faces from Star Trek: The Next Generation. As we previously shared, most of the main characters from the series would be returning with the exception of Wil Wheaton who portrayed Wesley Crusher for four seasons. Understandably, some fans were disappointed because they wanted to catch up with Wesley and find out where life with the Traveler has taken him.

Wheaton expressed his thoughts about not being part of the reunion on his own blog, saying that he shared some of the fans’ sadness for his own reasons. But the host of the Ready Room is choosing to focus on the positive aspects of the TNG crew returning to television, the crew he calls his family.

"“…but I choose to focus instead on how special it’s going to be to see my family back together again, and how wonderful it’s going to be to talk with them about it in the Ready Room.”"

Wil Wheaton also gave fans a hint at what he think Wesley’s been up to.

Like the rest of us, Wheaton wondered what Wesley would be up to at this stage in his life. It’s been twenty years since he’s seen the captain he looked up to, so it’s no surprise that, when writing a “what if” scenario, Wheaton chose to focus on another meeting with Admiral Picard.

In the short scene, Wheaton refers to Wesley as “Traveler” instead, and though the interaction between him and Picard is altogether too brief, it’s a poignant moment that brings a smile. Wheaton added “TO BE CONTINUED” at the end of the piece of fiction, and we can only hope that he’s serious about continuing the mini-reunion with Picard. If the producers of Star Trek: Picard won’t show us what’s been happening with Wesley and how he comes to be back in Picard’s world, then Wheaton definitely should.
