Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will delve deeper into legacy characters’ storylines.

In the Star Trek: The Original Series episode “Amok Time,” we learned that Mr. Spock had been promised in marriage to T’Pring. He was in the midst of the Pon farr which led him back to his home planet of Vulcan. The pair didn’t seem to be in love, but Spock fought to win her in a battle again Captain Kirk that T’Pring chose. In the end, he didn’t end up with T’Pring, and that was the last we heard about her, but Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is bringing her back.

In an interview with Gizmodo, Spock actor Ethan Peck said that it was both exciting and scary to explore the relationship between these two characters as there was no road map. The producers and writers didn’t want to take the story too far from what was familiar to Star Trek fans.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is taking Spock in new and varied directions.

As we previously reported, T’Pring will be played by Gia Sandhu and will appear for three episodes, although her appearances are not yet listed on her IMDB page so her time could be subject to change. Regardless, though if she does appear in three episodes, that will give the two Vulcans the opportunity to explore the relationship we didn’t get to see in The Original Series.

Fans have been quick to point out that Spock hadn’t seen T’Pring since they were children so perhaps Strange New Worlds is going to insert time between the time Spock fights Captain Kirk to allow the pair to explore the possibility of a relationship. It isn’t clear exactly who this is going to play out, but it is clear that this will be a part of the series.

Peck only mentioned one episode when he said that he, Sandhu, and the episode’s director Akiva Goldsman discussed what would happen on the episode and that it was done with great care which is understandable as they don’t want to alienate fans. Though the series is taking Spock in new directions, straying too far away from the Spock fans know and love is liable to cause some friction with hardcore Trekkies.

Still, fans saw a romance with Zachary Quinto’s version of Spock on the Star Trek (2009) movie with Zoe Saldana’s Nyota Uhura, and most didn’t seem to mind. Since the relationship with Spock and T’Pring is short-lived, hopefully, fans won’t have a problem with this deeper look into Spock’s life.
