Star Trek: Picard is losing another main cast member for season 3.

Star Trek: Picard season three is shaping up to be more like a Star Trek: The Next Generation reunion as another main cast member has exited the series. Isa Briones said farewell to Soji with an Instagram post that ended with “Thanks for watching friends. Farewell, Soji. This orchid is for you.”

Soji had started season two on a diplomatic mission and didn’t appear after the first episode. Briones assumed the role of Kore, Dr. Soong’s created daughter in 2004. After she left his compound, she was approached by a Traveler, played by none other than Wil Wheaton. Wheaton appeared as Wesley Crusher who’d left Star Trek: The Next Generation to travel and explore. He extended the same invitation to Kore who accepted, effectively giving her an out.

Star Trek: Picard is also losing Santiago Carbrera for the third season.

And along with Briones, Santiago Carbrera, while not directly coming out and saying he wouldn’t be back for season three, posted on his Instagram that it had been “a hell of a ride.” According to TrekMovie, Carbrera was filming The Flight Attendant while season three of Picard was filming so it stands to reason he isn’t involved in the final season. His character was left in a happy place at the end of season two when he chose to remain in 2024 with Teresa and her son after he helped Picard and the other team members save the future from a xenophobic regime.

And then there is Orla Brady who portrayed Laris on the series. She and Picard ended season two on a good note, with the promise of romance, but Brady took to her Twitter page back in September of 2021 to say that she had wrapped on season two and that it was time to take off the pointy ears. That seems to hint that those ears weren’t needed in the third season of Picard.

Alison Pill already confirmed she woudl not be returning so, with all of these characters departing, this opens the door for a full-on reunion with the cast members of Star Trek: The Next Generation along with Michelle Hurd and Jeri Ryan, both of whom have been confirmed to appear.
