Jonathan Del Arco suggests Star Trek: Picard spinoff with Orla Brady
This post contains spoilers for Star Trek: Picard season two.
Jonathan Del Arco, who played the ex-Borg drone Hugh on Star Trek: The Next Generation as well as the first season of Star: Trek: Picard is clearly a fan of the women of Picard, especially those in the second season. After watching the episode “Hide and Seek,” where Raffi (Michelle Hurd) and Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) fought to regain control of the La Sirena and Tallin (Orla Brady) kept newly-assimilated drones at bay with a menacing pulse rifle, Del Arco had a suggestion that has some merit.
The actor’s pitch included all three women in a spinoff series and even said he’d come back from the dead for such a series.
Orla Brady’s response shows she is on board but only if Hugh returns to life because Star Trek clearly needs more Hugh.
Michelle Hurd and Jeri Ryan are confirmed to return for Star Trek: Picard.
Both Michelle Hurd and Jeri Ryan will be returning for the final season of the series, but Orla Brady’s return is up in the air. The character of Tallin was killed off in the season two finale, but Laris and Jean-Luc had a touching moment at the very end of the episode that indicated the two would be moving forward with a relationship.
But a spinoff with Hurd, Ryan, and Brady would still work even without the character of Tallin. Laris is a Romulan who could easily return to the roots of her ancestors, especially if the unthinkable were to happen to Admiral Picard. If he were to be attacked, she would want revenge, and that would open the door to an amazing series with Hurd and Ryan working in tandem with her.
Another possible option would be for Laris to join Starfleet (perhaps she could receive a field commission like Seven of Nine), and the three would all be aboard a ship together as the main characters. Raffi could easily earn the rank of captain as could Seven. The possibilities are endless, but, for now, they remain only possibilities.
