Sonequa Martin-Green promises Star Trek: Discovery to be unexpected.

Fans of Star Trek: Discovery are going to be in for a wild time for season five, that is if Sonequa Martin-Green is telling the truth. Martin-Green is the star of Discovery and plays Captain Michael Burnham. She’s also the de-facto face of that specific franchise in Star Trek. While Discovery has been maligned from time to time, it’s rarely (if ever) for Martin-Green’s acting.

Discovery is a show that has had its ups and downs but for the most part, has found its audience. It’s unknown how long Discovery will go on but as long as the cast is mostly intact, they have a chance to get a sixth season. Yet, the talk isn’t about a future sixth season, but about the present fifth season. Or, upcoming as it were.

So when Martin-Green sat down with Games Radar, she was asked what fans could expect from the fifth season, and she replied;

"I think that’s a great phrase, I’m going to steal it. ‘Expect the unexpected.’ I think that is exactly right. The three words I would use to describe season five are ‘refreshing, invigorating, and lovely.’"

What could be in store for Discovery in season five?

Discovery is now in the far-far future and able to write its own story going forward. One could argue that it should’ve started there, with Burnham being the first new Federation captain in some time but that’s not how they did it and we’re left wondering, “What if?”

That said, since they jumped to the future, maybe the show takes a different approach once again and decides to venture further around the time stream in season five. This would be unexpected and if the current edict of bringing in legacy characters is a real thing; and by judging by how Prodigy, Lower Decks, Strange New Worlds and Picard operates, it is; then maybe we can see some other characters pop up on Discovery.

They did that in the first few seasons but maybe now that they’ve proven to be capable of time-travel, they can once again hop around and we can explore some Federation legends.

Just a thought.
