Star Trek: Lower Decks is getting ready for season three.

The third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is coming this summer, with the series getting a release date for the newest season. The series will debut its newest season on August 25, after a bit of a layoff of new content.

Star Trek as a brand has seen Discovery, Prodigy, Picard, and Strange New Worlds all airing new content non-stop dating back to October 21 of 2021. So it’s going to be a little odd not having brand new Trek coming for the next six or seven weeks.

Prodigy still has to finish airing its first season, which probably won’t come until late August or early September at the earliest. Partly due to Star Trek airing the series on Nickelodeon from now until August 5.

So it’s very likely that the third season of Strange New Worlds is followed by Prodigy’s second half of season one.

Star Trek: Lower Decks continues to use classic Star Trek as its inspiration

Eagle-eyed fans of Star Trek will clearly recognize that the poster is based on the Search for Spocks’s theatrical poster. The teaser poster featured a fractured Delta badge that emulated an image of Spock in the stars as the Enterprise and a Kling Bird of Prey can be seen on the edges.

For season two, the series used the Wrath of Khan posters for inspiration, clearly using the iconic images to help develop the promotional materials for season two.

This goes all the way back to season one, where the images and movie posters from Star Trek The Motion Poster were used to help promote the series. Considering each past season has done this, it’s very likely that the future seasons will do this as well.

We know that there’s a season four coming, so it’s very likely the promotional materials for The Voyage Home will also be featured as an homage of sorts for the fourth season of Lower Decks.
