Patrick Stewart has already said goodbye to the role of Admiral Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: Picard.

With production having wrapped on the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard, Patrick Stewart has officially ended his run as first Captain then Admiral Jean-Luc Picard. Well, that is what all of us fans thought anyway. After all, as we reported, he did tell Variety over two months ago that he thought Picard had said his last sentence and given his last look at his colleagues. But it seems that getting the gang back together and capturing some of the essence of what Star Trek: The Next Generation was has changed the prolific actor’s mind.

During an audience Q&A at San Diego Comic-Con [via Trekmovie], Stewart was asked if he would return to the role of Picard in a movie that featured the entire cast of The Next Generation. His answer came as a surprise to a lot of us.

"Yes is the answer to that, bluntly. I think that would be a very interesting and exciting and worthwhile thing to achieve."

Patrick Stewart and the entire Star Trek: The Next Generation crew back in a feature film? Yes, please.

But that yes comes with a caveat. If the TNG crew is going to get back together to tackle a major issue in the galaxy, then let them do it together…all aboard one ship with Admiral Picard in command. In other words, let’s have an actual Star Trek: The Next Generation movie.

After Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002, TNG didn’t get another chance on the big movie screen. So fans were left with that film as the final offering. And though bringing everyone back together on the third season of Picard will hopefully be as fantastic as it sounds, it’s not going to be The Next Generation like a movie would be.

So this is a new door that Stewart just propped open, and Kurtzman confirmed that he was open to it as well. But a lot of moving parts need to come together before this can happen, and though we’re hoping this could happen, none of us want a Nemesis repeat, Admiral Picard walking through his vineyards, or Captain Riker cooking pizza. We want the team back with action, drama, danger, and the camaraderie they had aboard the Enterprise over twenty years ago. In other words, we want a Star Trek: The Next Generation feature film, but only if it’s done properly.

Next. Patrick Stewart doesn’t see Star Trek: Picard ending as a closure. dark
