Star Trek: Strange New Worlds brought in some classic characters but who else should come in?
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is the new face of the Trek brand, and part of it has to do with how well-written the first season was. Other reasons the show exceeded expectations included the characters, the special effects, Anson Mount’s hair, and the use of legacy characters to tie into the legacy of The Original Series.
The use of legacy characters like Spock, Uhura, Chapel, and M’Banga, while also relying on families Trek fans know, such as the Kirks and Singhs, really gave the show a bit of a richer and lived-in experience that made everything feel new and different but also safe and familiar.
So of course that means that some fans want to see more in season two, and ScreenRant listed the 10 names they would like to see show up next season. Those characters are; The Talosians, Janice Rand, Koloth/Kang/Kor, Commodore Decker, Harcourt Fenton Mudd, Trelane, Richard Daystrom, Gary Mitchell, Nancy Crater, Pavel Chekov.
Yet, not all of them are good fits. So which ones should show up?
The four names that should show up in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
The four names that make sense to appear are Commodore Decker, Harcourt Fenton Mudd, Garcy Mitchell, and Nancy Crater. Decker and Mitchell could even be doubled up, with Decker serving as Captain on Mitchell’s ship. This would really help sell who each man was, while also building around Mitchell and James Kirk’s friendship.
Mudd has no real reason to appear, other than Rainn Wilson being amazing as the character and being one of the few characters that could appear on Discovery, Strange New Worlds, and The Original Series and work each time.
Lastly, Nancy Crater and her husband Robert would make total sense for a return. Adding depth to them now would give more weight to their eventual demise at the hands of the Salt Vampire.
As for the rest of the names; The Talosians make sense eventually but not in season two. Janice Rand would be too young as she was just a Yeoman during The Original Series, same with Chekov. Trelane only works if you end up revealing him as a Q, and Daystrom doesn’t serve any real significance to what Strange New Worlds is doing.
As for Koloth/Kang/Kor, it might be best to leave them alone regardless of when in the franchise you bring them in. Their legacy is truly complete and since you can’t get the original trio of actors together again, it’s best to just let their legacy be what it is.
