Will Star Trek: Picard reveal that Dr. Crusher and Admiral Picard have a child together?
Star Trek: Picard will be reuniting Gates McFadden and Patrict Stewart in the third and final season of the series
There have often been questions about what happened between Dr. Beverly Crusher and Admiral Jean-Luc Picard after Star Trek: Nemesis. Did they actually have a romantic relationship? Or was it just a case of love that was never fully acknowledged? And one of the biggest questions or suppositions is that the pair had a child together. There’s even been talk that Picard will meet a son or daughter he never knew he had because Dr. Crusher kept it from him. And with Gates McFadden returning as Dr. Crusher on the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard, speculation has grown stronger.
Both McFadden and Patrick Stewart did a series of video interviews [via Trekmovie] to talk about where their characters are after all this time and what we’ll see. McFadden says she was approached by Picard showrunner Terry Matalas with an incredible story that involved her character, and it was something that had never been explored on The Next Generation. Stewart chimed in with “and so far as Picard is concerned, a secret history is acknowledged as well.”
What secret history will Star Trek: Picard reveal between Dr. Crusher and Picard?
A secret history will be acknowledged. That could mean we’ll finally learn that Dr. Crusher and Picard were involved as a couple, much like what was revealed in the alternate timeline on the finale episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. But that would only serve to disappoint some Star Trek fans who wanted something more to happen between the couple for decades.
So, is it possible, the show is going in a different direction and revealing not only a relationship but a child? There could be myriad reasons why Crusher chose to keep it a secret from Picard, and revealing that in the final season would be a HUGE bomb that would shake things up between the couple and the other members of the crew who are returning.
McFadden has already confirmed that she and Picard have not seen each other for twenty-five years or so which would make it possible for the introduction of a grown child when she meets Picard again. And while there could be many, many different secrets, which one would pack the most punch as this couple and this crew bow out of Star Trek for what could be the final time?
