Star Trek: Picard will come to an end some time in 2023 which leaves an opening for another Star Trek series

Star Trek: Picard will bow out after its third season, and Alex Kurtzman has already confirmed there are two new Star Trek series in development, and there have been additional discussions coming from Paramount+ about potential Star Trek series down the line. With the success of Star Trek properties, we can, most likely, expect to see a continual slate of series for some time to come, and Picard showrunner, Terry Matalas, hopes a spin-off of Picard will be one of them.

TrekMovie’s All Access Star Trek podcast, Matalas expressed his hope that fans of Picard will want a spin-off of the series.

"I hope. You never know what people are going to want. I hope and think, yes [fans will want a Picard spin-off]. But again, it’s sort of the life of a show where some things you think will work, work. And then some things don’t. If I’m a betting man, I think so. And then, it’s sort of up to the television gods to decide from there."

There have already been discussions among fans about a Star Trek: Picard spin-off.

You have only to check in on social media to see the discussion about the next Star Trek series that will hopefully come from Picard. Even Jonathan Del Arco, who played Hugh on Star Trek: Picard, sugggested a spin-off of Star Trek: Picard which included Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, and Orla Brady. Brady was on-board, saying they would only do it, though, if Hugh could come back from the dead.

Going beyond that, the talks have centered around Ryan and Hurd having their own series, and they’ve both confirmed they would absolutely work with one another again on such a project. So this remains a possibility. With most of the original cast already gone, we’ll have to wait to see more options for such a spin-off when the final season of the series airs next year.
