Today is launch day for new mini-series tied to Star Trek: Picard.

Star Trek: Picard is ending its run next season with ten-episodes, and as most fans will tell you, shorter seasons aren’t the best way to go. There’s not enough time in them to tell every adventure, to grow the characters, and to increase interest in the series. Fortunately, there are comic books to bridge the gaps between seasons.

The new mini-series comic book from IDW Publishing is set between the second and third seasons of Star Trek: Picard. Titled Star Trek: Picard-Stargazer, the 36-page comic is written by Mike Johnson & Kirsten Beyer with art by Angel Hernandez.

Here is the official synopsis:

Embark on a never-before-seen journey set between seasons two and three of the Paramount+ hit series Star Trek: Picard! After a tantalizing offer to return among the stars arises, Captain Jean Luc-Picard takes to the bridge of the U.S.S. Stargazer. But when trouble rears its head on a once peaceful, pre-warp planet from his past, Picard enlists the help of an old friend.

This first in the series is available digitally now at Amazon/ComiXology. You can also buy individual copies at TFAW.

More Star Trek: Picard comic books are on the way.

This will be one of three in the series, and all three will be published in paperback (Star Trek: Picard Stargazer) in April 2023. That’s available for pre-order now at Amazon. Here is the official synopsis:

"Following the climactic events of Season Two’s finale, Jean-Luc and Seven of Nine launch an unsanctioned mission that sets the stage for the upcoming Season Three! When the Stargazer, under a new captain, mysteriously disappears, Jean-Luc Picard is once more compelled away from his chateau to confront the shadows of his past. Before his days on the Enterprise, a young Picard violated the Prime Directive for the greater good…and created an enemy that now threatens not only the Stargazer, but an entire system. For Seven of Nine, agreeing to help Picard means putting her own future at risk—but is it even the future she wants?Star Trek: Picard creator Kirsten Beyer reteams with veteran Trek comics scribe Mike Johnson and artist non-pareil Angel Hernandez for an adventure that promises to unearth secrets—of the past, present, and future—at every turn!"

With Picard ending next season, this is a great way to tie up loose ends between seasons two and three, if that is actually what happens. It could be these are just additional adventures for what appears to be Admiral Picard and Commander Seven only, but we’ll see if any of the old crew shows up.
