Star Trek 4 is currently a mess and Chris Pine’s recent comments should worry fans.

Optimism is a great thing until it becomes a hindrance. That’s where we are right now with Star Trek 4; we want to be optimistic about the upcoming fourth film but each week we get hit with yet another piece of bad news. The perception of the film has taken huge hit after huge hit and now we’re at a point where the fourth film seems like a pipe dream more than anything else.

It was announced without the cast being under contract, it had a late-2022 start time to begin filming but as of yet, there is no script and now no director. A director had been hired but he quit, allegedly due to his commitments with Marvel but more than likely due to the crap-show that this film was becoming and now we have comments from Chris Pine that further highlight how poorly run this whole thing has been.

Nearly seven months after the film was originally announced, Pine told the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast that the cast is completely in the dark about the project, saying;

"I think reporters think that we know more than we’re saying. And when I say that I honestly—none of us know anything. I haven’t seen a script. All I heard was that they said we’re making a film. I am so stoked for that idea and possibility as we all are, but it’s so premature to say anything because there’s no date, no nothing. But I’m pretty positive we’d all come back. I don’t see why not."

Chris Pine’s comments should worry fans

Star Trek 4 was announced in February of 2022 with a target window of a December 2023 release date. The filming was to begin a year prior, in the latter portions of 2022, and the entire cast was announced to be attached to the film

None of that ended up being true, or at the very least, was proven to eventually be a lie. The film is still a go, but with no script and no director, the target window to begin projection in late 2022 seems very unlikely, especially considering Karl Urban’s comments about him not being able to film this year, as he’s attached to The Boys.

So now that Pine is speaking out on this, the star of the franchise, and basically telling everyone that they’re being left out of the conversations, that should worry fans. If Pine, their big money player, isn’t being looped into what’s happening, we’re left to wonder if anyone is talking to anyone at this point.

One would think that Paramount would want this project to succeed but at this rate, there really doesn’t seem to be much in the way of importance played on the project. We’re less than three months away from the scheduled production date, and we’re still left with a list of seemingly never-ending questions that keep growing day by day.
