Star Trek can’t get enough of Wil Wheaton apparently.

You’d be forgiven if you didn’t realize that Wil Wheaton is more involved with Star Trek than ever before. The former star of Stand By Me and the later recurring character on Star Trek: The Next Generation has been involved with Trek for nearly 40 years. Yet, he hasn’t been that involved since he left TNG late into its run.

He’d come back nearly a decade later in 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis but that was largely it. Sure, his character popped up in various other forms of media, but Wheaton himself was nowhere to be seen for the longest time.

That is, until people saw him in his cameo for the season two finale of Star Trek: Picard. But you’d be forgiven if you thought that was Wheatons’ return to the franchise. After all, no one would blame you if that was the first time you’ve seen Wheaton back with the property since 2002.

Except it wasn’t, as Wheaton has been doing a lot of work for Star Trek recently. He currently hosts the Trek-after show The Ready Room on Facebook Live which does deep dives on the latest episodes of Trek, as well as holding interviews with many of the stars of the franchise.

It’s been going on since 2019 and the show, which has the full backing of Paramount, seems to have no signs of slowing down. But that’s still not all that Wheaton is doing in 2022.

Wil Wheaton to play Mirror Wesley Crusher in Star Trek: Online “Ascension”

The online video game Star Trek: Online has done a great job of recontextualizing characters like Leeta and showing fans what they could be (should the game be considered canon). Another example is Kathyrn Janeway, who’s mirrored version was a huge part of the game in recent memory.

Now, Wesley Crusher’s mirrored version will also be given a chance to shine in the game’s storyline and Wheaton is back to voice this new version of his classic character.

Here’s the official synopsis courtesy of TrekMovie.com;

"Things have escalated in the Mirror Universe, as the Terran emperor is attempting to control The Other, the Mirror version of V’ger – a dangerous entity of tremendous power. Up until this point, the identity of the leader behind the Terran Empire’s strategic incursions into the Prime Universe has remained a secret. However, players team up with former enemy-turned-ally, Admiral Leeta (voiced by Chase Masterson from Deep Space Nine) and learn that the Emperor is none other than the Mirror version of Wesley Crusher from The Next Generation (voiced by Wil Wheaton). In order to stop the Terran Emperor from threatening both the Prime and Mirror Universes, the Federation will need to stop him from controlling The Other, all while fighting off his forces led by the dreaded Captain Killy (voiced by Mary Wiseman from Discovery)."

By the look of the trailer, it seems like Mirror Wesley is going to be a major villain for players to handle and if that doesn’t make you want to play, we don’t know what will.
