Alex Kurtzman would love to bring live-action Janeway back
A live-action Janeway series may actually be happening.
Recently, Kate Mulgrew spoke about how she would love to return to the screen as a live-action Admiral Janeway. Fans were fully on board with this possibility, and now, it seems like more than just something that might happen. At Saturday’s Star Trek Universe panel at New York Comic Con [via Trekmovie], the question was presented to Alex Kurtzman.
Kurtzman, who was present at the panel with Mulgrew, admitted that “things have been talked about” and that he would love to bring Janeway back. He hinted that there “might be an idea in play.”
"Here’s what I’m going to say. Things have been talked about. That’s all I’m going to say. But nothing would make me happier than to bring Janeway back. I think it would be an incredible, incredible thing to do. There might be an idea in play. Who knows? But I would love it to happen."
Bringing Kate Mulgrew back as a live-action Janeway would be a boost to the Star Trek Universe.
Admiral Janeway is extremely popular right now as is Mulgrew. So bringing the character back for her own Star Trek series, provided it is done properly, could really make a difference in how fans are seeing Nu Trek. And it appears that there is serious consideration .
Mulgrew quipped “But we’d like to bring her back while she’s still ambulatory” to which Kurtzman added “Yes, for sure. We’re not thinking ten years down the line. I’d like to bring her back sooner rather than later. Yes.”
Sooner rather than later works for the fans, but there will be some nervousness about how Admiral Janeway returns. There are myriad possibilities for her return, and while I would love to see her in a series all her own, many fans want her to come back with Star Trek: Voyager crew members. Either way, this would be a boost of good-will. Again, provided it is done correctly.
