One writer wrote her love of The Simpsons into an early episode of Star Trek: Prodigy.

You can’t deny that so many of Star Trek’s current staffers are not only fans of the franchise but of the pop culture we all grew up with. There’s a reason there are touches of other franchises in the franchise here and there and maybe none more hilarious than how one Star Trek: Prodigy writer snuck in a line from The Simpsons.

In the seventh episode of the show’s first season, entitled “First Con-tact”, writer Diandra Pendleton-Thompson snuck in a cheeky Homer Simpson reference. During one scene in the episode, Jankmon Pog and his fellow crewmembers Gywn, Rok-Tahk, and Zero were testing out the ship’s teleporters.

As former prison colony slaves, they had never really done much in the way of playing around with modern tech, so the teleporters were a big deal to them. Not wanting to injure themselves, however, they used pie as a test object.

As soon as the crew found where the pie went, Jankmon uttered a line straight from the Simpsons; “Mmm, Floor pie.”

This wasn’t the only Simpsons reference in Star Trek: Prodigy

So besides using the iconic quote from the season five episode, “Boy-Scoutz ‘n the Hood“, as found by Heavy, the show had another Simpsons reference in the very same episode. In that same episode, Grey DeLisle guest-starred as Dal R’El’s former friend Nandi, who ended up selling him into slavery.

DeLisle isn’t just known for playing the cruelest character in the series, but she’s also known for her turn as a Simpson’s voice actress. She took over the voice-acting duties of Russi Taylor after she passed, away and can now be heard doing the voices of snotty genius Martin Prince and the creepy purple twins, Sherri and Terri.
