The post contains spoilers from the season finale of Star Trek: Prodigy.

Star Trek: Prodigy concluded its first season last week, and as I mentioned in a previous post, the producers marvelously set things up for the second season. There were plenty of unanswered questions that will keep people wondering through the hiatus, one of which is will we see a certain Janeway again?

Because the Living Construct had been activated and caused the Federation to turn on itself, with starships attacking one another, the crew of the Protostar decided that the only way to stop it was to blow up the Protostar. They managed to replicate a shuttlecraft to escape, but someone had to stay behind to manually detonate the ship. Hologram Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) offered to do that with the understanding that her program could be downloaded onto an isolinear chip so the crew could take her with them. Unfortunately, she discovered her program was too big for the chip, but she didn’t tell the crew that because she knew they would have tried to figure out another way to save the Federation. So when the Protostar exploded, Hologram Janeway was lost.

Star Trek: Prodigy has united the crew of the Protostar with the real Janeway

Hologram Janeway helped make the crew a crew. She was there for their mistakes and their triumphs, but they will now be serving under Vice Admiral Janeway. So does this mean we’ve seen the last of the hologram? Possibly not.

Admiral Janeway and her crew will be going after Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) who is in the past as is the Protostar which would have the former Captain Janeway onboard in holographic form. Since the entire first season revolved around the importance of the Protostar, I cannot imagine that ship won’t be a part of the second season. And where the ship is, Hologram Janeway should be. So, with a little time travel, the new Starfleet recruits should be reunited with their first mentor…at least, that’s my theory. What do you think?
