Anson Mount wants fans to know that the Star Trek crossover episode between Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks isn’t the craziest part of the season.
Star Trek will have one of it’s first true authetic crossovers of the Nu Trek era when Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks meet in an epic event during the second season of Strange New Worlds. Details are vague about how the two shows are going to crossover, with one being animiated, the other live action, and both existing over 100 years apart in the timeline. Meaning that pulling this off logistically is going to be impressive.
Despite the hype, and the pure talent needed to pull off such a crossover, Strange New Worlds star Anson Mount promises that it won’t even be the craziest thing the series does during its’ second outing.
Speaking to Trek Geeks on their live-stream telethon,(Transcript via TrekMovie.com) Mount gave a little hint as to what to expect in the second season;
"So for instance, the one that’s already been announced, the crossover with with Lower Decks, is tremendous fun, and straight-up comedy, and we had a blast with it.That’s not even the craziest thing that we did. There’s one episode I’m thinking of towards the end of the season—and you’ll know when you see it—where it required us to work many weekends. But we we were so excited about it, it was not laborious. We were excited to show up for Sunday rehearsals and all the things we’re having to do to pull together this one episode. We’re really excited about it."
Strange New Worlds is poised for a bit year
Many people who have been paying attention over the last six or seven seasons will remember that Discovery was supposed to be the face of the franchise but after season one of Strange New Worlds came and went, it became clear that the Discovery-spinoff and Orignal Series prequel series was the new standard barer for the franchise.
With fans fully invested, and critics praising the series, Strange New Worlds has the chance to truly take the franchise to the next level, and return Trek back to the glory days of the late 80s and late 90s.
