Star Trek is partnering up with the NFL on CBS to bring fans the last Star Trek: Picard trailer ever.

Star Trek is getting ready to say goodbye to Patrick Stewart and Jean-Luc Picard this year, with the final season of Star Trek: Picard. The third season will premiere on Feb. 16, 2023, and is being built around a reunion of the iconic crew of the Next Generation series. This will not be a friendly or happy reunion, as tensions are apparently running high between everyone involved.

Rumors of an illegitimate love child with Picard and Beverly Crusher run amock, while concerns of a returning Romulan (Denis Crosby?) linger in the air. Not to mention a whole host of interpersonal conflicts that have long gone unresolved.

All of this is coming to a head in season three, and CBS wants you to check out the final trailer when it airs during the AFC Championship Game on Sunday.

Airing the final trailer during the AFC Championship Game makes total sense

Star Trek: Picard has largely been the least well-received show of Nu Trek. Even worse than Discovery. There are dozens, maybe even hundreds of reasons why, and while we can go into grand details discussing the failings of the show, what we can’t argue is that there’s still one season left and it has to do well.

The streaming bubble is getting close to popping and when it does, these shows like Discovery, Picard, and Strange New Worlds, will likely be in doubt, simply due to the budgets they have being nearly infinite.

Paramount+ isn’t making much, if any money, and is among the lesser subscribed to services. Even though Picard is not a great show in the eyes of many, it still has to attract new subscribers and new viewers so that other shows, like Strange New Worlds and Prodigy, can have a shot at gaining more seasons.

The best chance of this happening is by putting the trailer on a program with a lot of eyes. Hence the AFC Championship Game that’s pitting the Cincinnati Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch from last year’s title game.
