Star Trek: Picard showrunner, Terry Matalas, just confirmed the involvement of Section 31.

This post contains spoilers for the S3, ep. 2 of Star Trek: Picard “Disengage.”

Raffi Musiker (MIchelle Hurd) has been working with Starfleet Intelligence this season on Picard, and in the most recent episode, we discovered that her handler was Worf (Michael Dorn) as he comes storming in to save her from Sneed’s cronies. But it was the conversation Sneed, the shifty Ferengi broker, had with Raffi beforehand that set the bells ringing. He suspected that Raffi was involved with Starfleet, maybe even Section 31, and it sent up a red flag for me as it would make perfect sense for Worf to have gotten involved in that deep, dark intelligence, although, his honor would prevent him from doing anything against Starfleet itself. At least I’d like to think so.

In a converation with Collider before season three of Picard began, showrunner Terry Matalas, confimed that, though Sneed was poking around for information, there was some truth to his suspicions.

"I think Sneed is certainly referencing the more nefarious aspect of Starfleet intelligence, which does play a part in the season. He’s definitely poking."

Terry Matalas may be making a wise decision to involve Section 31.

Section 31, the next Star Trek show, has been rumored to be in production, but we’ve heard a lot about it for a long time. So we won’t actually believe it’s moving forward until we actually see some forward movement. However, if there is some work being done behind the scenes, then Matalas is wise to potentially tie-in the two series.

There has been much talk of a spin-off from Star Trek: Picard, and if Michelle Hurd is going to be a part of that, making her an agent with Section 31 while Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) remains an active part of Starfleet sets up a perfect plot for intrigue, relationship issues, and distrust. The drama practically writes itself if these two characters are involved.

There’s been no indication that either Hurd or Ryan would be a part of the new series; however, if Section 31 is airing, there’s no reason why there couldn’t be a character from a spin-off series involved in the nefarious intelligence agancy. In fact, it might be the best thing to help Raffi get her feet back under her after her recent confrontation with her ex-husband about her son, Gabe. To me, it sounds like the perfect move for her.

Next. Patrick Stewart doesn’t see Star Trek: Picard ending as a closure. dark
