Brent Spiner didn’t expect to be returning to Star Trek: Picard after his poignant death scene at th end of the first season.

Prior to that, Brent Spiner died a heroic death in Star Trek: Nemesis, which he didn’t mind. But the fans weren’t ready to say goodbye to Data, and thankfully, Spiner has made the return to Picard, playing a part of himself along with Lore, his evil twin brother, B-4, and Lal, the “daughter” he created.

Though we haven’t seen much of him this season as Spiner’s character was just reintroduced over halfway through the series’ final season, we were able to catch a glimpse of Data and Geordi La Forge (LeVar Burton) seeing one another for the first time in years. It was a wonderful moment, and, of course, it’s not surprising that, in a Yahoo!Entertainment interview, Spiner was asked if he would return to the character if that was a possibility after Picard concludes.

"That remains to be seen. I don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. If the fans are there for us and enjoy it and want to see more."

Brent Spiner is keen to return in ten-episode movies every single year.

This season of Star Trek: Picard has made it clear that fans are still there for Star Trek: The Next Generation actors (and are even heavily invested now in the newer characters). We all want to see more so, if more is a possibility, then, hopefully, we’ll see Spiner back as Data.

"“So here’s what I would like you to write as your last line. You can quote me on this. I mean, you don’t have quote me — this is your last line: “I, for one, would like to see one of these ten-episode movies every single year as long as they can do it.”"

If the petition that is currently underway succeeds, we may get the Star Trek: Legacy show that Terry Matalas mentioned on Twitter. And legacy would automatically create opportunities for the return of these characters again and again. Fingers crossed!
