Star Trek: Picard will wrap its season and the series on April 20th.

This season has brought fans something most of us have wanted for decades—the return of familiar faces, a chance to catch up with these characters and learn where their lives are. Star Trek: Picard has given us that and more, and most fans will agree that this has been an outstanding season. Unfortunately, it will come to an end on April 20th, and we’re still not sure where that will leave the legacy characters who have returned and proven they still have a lot of fight, knowledge, and wisdom in them that another Star Trek series could use.

Some Star Trek viewers have said we should move on from legacy characters and focus instead on new characters, but who among us doesn’t have a favorite television show they’d love to see rebooted with the original characters? Those were characters we weren’t ready to say goodbye to. Shows like Castle, Hawaii Five-0, Mike & Molly, The Glades, and Alias are just some of the series that could pick up right where things left off. So why shouldn’t we feel the same way about Star Trek characters?

Star Trek: Picard has given us the chance to see these characters again.

And now that we’ve seen them, we know the actors who portray them still have a lot to give to Star Trek fans. So what’s wrong with a series that focuses on legacy characters? Why do we have to move on from them as some people claim? What’s wrong with having a series that reaches the older Star Trek generation while still providing good entertainment to the younger generation?

Moving on from a beloved series is never easy, and if there is a chance we could return to these characters, perhaps in ten episode movies like Brent Spiner has suggested, I don’t see a reason not to go for it. We could have Star Trek: La Forge for ten episodes, Star Trek: Crusher, Star Trek: Worf, and the list goes on . These would not have to be full three to five season series, but giving fans ten episodes to really catch up on a character’s life couldn’t be a bad thing. I know, personally, I could watch the Star Trek: The Next Generation characters for much longer than the two remaining episodes we have with them, especially if those episodes are as good as this season of Star Trek: Picard has been.
