Star Trek: Picard had several actors to choose from to bring back for the third and final season of the series.

Or maybe they didn’t. We don’t actually know the actors’ schedules or contracts. But one thing we do know, and that’s Terry Matalas and crew had to choose the best person that would work with the plot they had laid out. They needed someone who could go undercover, be convincing as a drug addict, and be able to get close enough to the dark underworld to find answers. While Elnor was an excellent fighter, he was far too young and didn’t have the experience to be an undercover intelligence agent. And Dr. Jurati and Captain Rios were already out as their ending was decided in season two.

But when you think about it, it makes sense that Raffi’s character was kept. She, like Worf, had demons to spare, and it was through Worf’s help that she was actually able to overcome some of the darkness inside her. Though we didn’t get nearly enough time with the two of them, what we did see showed a partnership that worked.

Star Trek: Picard introduced Raffi as someone struggling with her world and gave her a purpose.

Raffi wasn’t every fan’s favorite character, but she was a strong character, especiailly in the third season. Not only did we see her fight more, but we also saw her leaning more into who she was. At heart, she was a fighter and not just because she could weild a weapon. She fought to stay sober and to belong. And when she and Worf worked together, it was like she found a calling.

The season ended with her aboard the USS Enterprise, serving as Captain Seven of Nine’s second-in-command, but I’d like to think that, should the need ever arise for clandestine investigations, Starfleet will look no further than Raffi.

Why a Worf and Raffi spin-off would work so well for Star Trek. dark. Next
