Stellar dialogue and acting

We talked about how good the dialogue for Karl Urban’s Bones was, but the entire crew was given just fantastic dialogue in this film. The standouts, in my opinion, are Scotty, Bones, Kirk, and Khan. They’re the four that have the most quotable lines from the film.

For Scotty, it’s all about his drunken ramblings after he gets dismissed from the Enterprise. Specifically, but not limited to, his ranting at Kirk when Kirk messages him, and Scotty refers to his former captain as “Captain James Tiberius Perfect-Hair”, only for him to giggle and ask Keenser if he heard his sick burn.

We’ve already covered Bones but it’s important to really emphasize how funny Bones is in this movie, simply by being a hammy, over-the-top, version of the character.

For Kirk, his standout moment came when he was commanding Spock to take over as captain of the Enterprise, “What I am about to do, it doesn’t make sense, it’s not logical, it is a gut feeling! I have no idea what I’m supposed to do. I only know what I can do.”

It’s one of the best lines in the whole franchise in my opinion. But easily, the best lines and the best delivery, belong to Khan. From his “Shall we begin”, to his “You should’ve let me sleep!” and so many other little moments that made him so good. Plus, who didn’t love his Grinch-like smile?

Also, shoutout to Sulu’s threat to Khan when they arrived at Qo’noS. That was S-tier.
