Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has officially been hit by the writer’s strike.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is gearing up for its second season in just a matter of weeks, and it’s expected to do big numbers for Paramount+. The folks behind the streaming service are likely hoping that the second season of Strange New Worlds continues the upward climb that the last season of Picard brought them.

In fact, the first season of Strange New Worlds kicked off the climb, as they raised the bar, then the second half of Star Trek: Prodigy really got things trending upward, and then Picard sealed the deal. It’d be fitting if the second season of Strange New Worlds continued the upward trajectory of the series as a streaming juggernaut.

It very well might, but if it does, fans may be waiting a long time for the third season to come to screens, as it was officially announced that the third season of Strange New Worlds has officially been delayed due to the ongoing writer’s strike.

Strange New Worlds co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers revealed to Larry Nemecek (via TrekMovie.com) that production has been halted and they can’t begin shooting anytime before the strike is officially over; thus hindering when the show will debut.

"We won’t be able to shoot any of that [season 3] until after the strike is done, yeah. But season 2 has been done for a while and we are excited for people to see it."

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds isn’t the only show that is being impacted

Strange New Worlds can and will get a third season, but newer shows like the upcoming Star Trek: Starfleet Academy series, could very well get canceled.  That is if the 2007 writer’s strike repeats itself. A lot of shows and films in production were canceled in 2007 and history may repeat itself.

As of right now, the folks at Starfleet Academy don’t have to worry about a premature cancellation but do have to worry about when they’ll begin production, with Nemecek speaking to Aviel Mann Ballo, who is the writer’s room assistant for the Starfleet Academy series, and she knows they’re a long way away from things starting up.

"Our timeline is impacted but it was already a long runway… It will push the writers’ room into probably next year."
