There are plenty of fans and actors alike hoping for an Emmy for Star Trek: Picard, but most just want an actor from Star Trek to take home an award.

The official nominees for the Emmy Awards will be announced on July 12th, and so far, most of the predictions leave out Star Trek (and most science fiction series). According to Variety, the series that are high on the list of predictions are ones we’ve similarly seen on the Emmy rosters like Better Call Saul and The Handmaid’s Tale.  Newer shows like Succession and YellowJackets have made their way into the pool of potential winners, and Indiewire is proposing essentially the same nominations.

Trek has not won an Emmy for its storytelling since Star Trek: The Animated Series, and that was when the Daytime Emmys were still combined with the Primetime Emmys. And it’s not like these series don’t deserve to be recognized. For some reason, they just aren’t by the 20,000 members of the Television Academy.

Star Trek has a number of actors that deserve Emmy nominations.

As we’ve written before, Picard alone has a vast array of actors deserving to at least be recognized, even if they don’t win the award. And while some might say Emmys don’t matter, they are a way of telling actors that the work they’ve done is exceptional and deserving of an award. And quite frankly, if there’s anything Trek series need right now, it’s recognition.

With the recent cancellation of Star Trek: Prodigy, an Emmy nomination would go a long way toward opening up a potential door for a home for the second season of the series and possibly the continuation. Even if this series doesn’t get nominated, showing what Trek has to offer could be a powerful motivator to streaming channels looking to capitalize on the franchise’s popularity.
