Though the writers and actors are still on strike, there has been a seemingly positive forward motion with the Section 31 movie starring Michelle Yeoh

This might come as a surprise, but according to Trekcentral, “a Section 31 movie has begun appearing in resumes, Production Weekly, and the DGC (Directors Guild of Canada) ‘rumored’ production list.” A while back, Paramount greenlit the series, but there was always a question as to whether the movie would actually get made, but right now, there is an official production list with the crew already attached to the listing so this seems to be something fairly solid.

The project is listed under the production codename ‘Dovercourt’ and looks to be set to start filming in October. Yes, this will be dependent upon where things stand WGA and SAG-AFTRA, but this clearly shows Paramount Studios is intending to move forward with the project.

Section 31 probably won’t actually start production in October

Speaking realistically, even if both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes were to come to an end within the next month or so, there’s a lot of work to be done before October so this might not even be possible. Still, the production information does provide a partial cast list which includes Michelle Yeoh, Margery Simkin, Orly Sitowitz, and Robin Cook.

Whatever the case may be, it’s unlikely we’ll hear any kind of announcement until the strikes have ended, but it’s reassuring to see that Paramount Studios was being serious about the movie.  Of course, this isn’t the first movie that got the thumbs-up only to go nowhere . (Looking at Star Trek 4 here.) But if this movie does get made and is successful, we can probably look forward to more of these types in the future, maybe even more than series as they could be cheaper to produce.
