Star Trek: Prodigy has a new home but when can fans expect the second season?

Star Trek: Prodigy is one of the better new Star Trek shows that we’ve seen in some time. It embraced the heart of the franchise while opening up the format a bit to be creative, while still retaining a lot of the dynamic and bombastic storytelling that the franchise is known for. It truly found a way to tell Star Trek stories to all ages.

And just like that, Paramount+ canceled it, despite the fact that it was one of the most engaged-in shows on social media and seemingly one of the most in-demand shows on Paramount+, even more so than Strange New Worlds.

And despite that, it was canceled. But thanks to Netflix, the show was revived. Well, as revived as a show can be with a nearly complete second season. Paramount+ canceling the show as it was nearing completion was beyond irregular, and now that Netflix has picked it up, fans can now see that second season.

But when will that season come to Netflix?

Star Trek: Prodigy writer Aaron J. Waltke reveals fans won’t have to wait too long

A lot of Star Trek shows like Strange New Worlds’ third season and the fifth season of Lower Decks (assuming both happen), are not expected to be back until 2025. Discovery’s fourth season will happen in 2024, but everything else like the Section 31 streaming-film and the new Starfleet Academy show could be a year and a half off at best.

But not Prodigy, as Aaron J. Waltke revealed on Twitter that Prodigy is expected to premier for Netflix in 2024.

It’s very likely that the second season will air sometime after Discovery’s finale episodes, but as Discovery doesn’t have a secured date just yet for its show, it’s unlikely we hear about a concrete date for Prodigy, either.
