Zachary Quinto has a new leading role on NBC which could affect the filming of Star Trek 4 if it ever gets underway.

Though there has been much talk (and little movement) about Star Trek 4, hope springs eternal about the possibility that Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk and his crew will get another trip into space. Right now, though, there seem to be a lot of problems that need to be resolved before Paramount will be able to move forward.

While the actors have previously said they’re on board for another Kelvin Timeline movie, they are, as they should be, moving on with their acting careers. Zachary Quinto, who portrayed Spock on the first three Star Trek films, has taken on a lead role in an upcoming medical drama, Dr. Wolf.

This new role for Zachary Quinto will be on network television

On the new NBC drama, as reported by Variety, Dr. Wolf, Quinto will portray Dr. Oliver Wolf, a neurologist, who, along with his team of interns, “explore the human mind.”

We don’t know if NBC has ordered an initial thirteen episodes or if they went with a full season order. Since this is on a regular network, most series produce at least 18-22 episodes per season. That usually requires at least nine months of filming for the actors.

So Quinto’s schedule could possibly impact the production of Star Trek 4 if it ever gets underway…unless they’re able to squeeze his scenes into the few months he’ll have available during hiatus.

Of course, this is all assuming that the movie will one day move forward. I don’t think there’s a Star Trek fan right now that is holding out much of that eternal hope for the possibility given the back and forth that’s been happening since Star Trek Beyond released in 2016. But one thing we do know, we can’t have another Star Trek movie without Spock.
