Star Trek 4 isn’t happening anytime soon according to Chris Pine.

When a film or project gets announced but doesn’t seem to gain traction, it’s referred to as a property that’s stuck in development hell. No greater term can describe the cursed project that is Star Trek 4. Despite rumors that it could be rushed back into production now that the writer’s strike is over and the actor’s strike seems to be, no actual proof of that happening actually exists. At least according to franchise star Chris Pine.

The film has been plagued by script issues for years, and it was apparently the reason the film never materialized nearly two years ago when it was announced. Star Trek 4 was announced with its full, surviving cast to start the spring season of 2022, 18-odd months ago. Yet, not one member of the cast had signed a contract yet.

The script and conflicting schedules caused the film to fall apart, which then saw the director, Matt Shakman, leave the project. Pine had seen some stuff at the time but ever since the project had been shelved sometime in the fall of 2022, there hadn’t been a word edgewise about what to expect from the film.

Comicbook.com recently caught up with Pine and asked him if he had heard anything about the upcoming film, to which Pine shot any rumors of it being in pre-production down, saying;

"Not that I know [of]."

When asked if he has at least seen a script yet for the fourth film in the Kelvin Timeline, Pine gave the most obvious answer ever;

"Of course not."

Star Trek 4 is a cursed project that fans should probably give up hope for

There will be another Star Trek film eventually. That we know for sure, but what we don’t know for sure is what universe it’s going to be, what the cast will look like, or if it’ll even be a continuation of what we’ve already seen before. The very thought at this point that Star Trek 4 will ever happen, though, is one that fans need to let go of.

The film is already hurting without Anton Yelchin able to be a part of the project, and after six-plus years in between projects, with the revival of the Star Trek television/streaming side of things and a different direction in storytelling for the shows that has developed over the years, there’s really no reason to think a fourth Kelvin film is ever coming.
