Chris Pine doesn’t know which way is up for the next Star Trek film.

You’d think if you’re building a property around a star, that star would be involved to some degree After all, they are a lot of times the driving force for how a project does. So you’d think that Chris Pine would be brought in on the big decisions for the next Star Trek film.

You’d think.

He was brought on early in the process for Star Trek 4, and was involved once again to start 2022, but script issues and double-bookings caused the whole thing to fall apart, essentially ending that version of the film. Star Trek 4 now continues on, but questions linger.

Namely, who’s going to be involved with it in front of the camera? Will Pine and the rest of the cast from the past three films return? We’re not sure, and not even Pine is being kept abreast of the situation.

He spoke to Comicbook.com recently and when asked if he had any idea what was going on with the fourth film, and if he and his castmates were being replaced, Pine got candid, saying;

"Not that I know [of]"

The Star Trek cast not knowing what’s going on is a troubling sign

When you don’t even know if you’re coming back for a fourth film or not, that’s usually a sign that the people in charge have truly dropped the ball. The film was greenlit in early 2022 with the idea that it’d be out by now, or early 2024. That hasn’t happened at all and now we’re left wondering if Paramount is just going to reboot the whole thing.

If they do that means Pine and company will likely never return to the property at any point, and a new film franchise will be built. Likely out of brand-new talent and writers, and with little to no returning characters.
