A Klingon-based show centering around Worf's family could be Star Trek's Game of Thrones

Forget Captain Worf, a series that follows along Worf's family would be even better.

Fans have clamored for a Captain Worf series for decades. It would've been a fun series, how could it not have been? Imagine Worf, the Captain of a Federation ship, commanding with his iron-Klingon fist. It would have been a treat. Yet, with Worf's actor, Michael Dorn, now into his 70s, it's hard to argue for a show featuring him as a series lead.

That's a lot of money and time to invest in a show where your lead actor is a senior citizen. By no means should this be taken to dismiss Dorn or his considerable skills still as an actor. No, this is just reality. Dorn himself has contemplated retirement due to the grind that traveling and acting takes. If your lead actor is heading to retirement, how can you hope to build a show around someone?

Instead of asking Dorn to carry a franchise at his age, why not modify the concept? Worf has an extended family, with his brother Kurn (Rodek), and Kurn's children, his other brother Nikolai, and his other brother Jeremy. As well as his son, Alexander Rozhenko.

Worf has a pretty extended family. Now sadly, a show visiting Worf's family would have to be without Kurn or Nikolai as the men who played those characters (Tony Todd and Paul Sorvino) have passed away. The possibility of recasting their parts exist but with Todd specifically, it's hard to argue for replacing such a beloved character-actor in the franchise's history. So if you're not willing to replace Todd, you can't replace Sorvino.

Yet, that doesn't mean you can't explore the families they may have created. After all, Kurn and Nikolai both had children. Seeing a grown Alexander trying to bring together his cousins (and maybe some new unknown siblings) together in an attempt to fight for the honor of their family would be riveting television

After all, one of the best aspects of the Star Trek universe is the unique and admired culture that the Klingons possess. Just imagine Alexander trying to restore honor to his father so that he may have his own house. Worf currently belongs to the House of Martok, led by his friend, Martok. The story could focus on Alexander rebelling against Martok and his house by trying to establish one that honors his father.

This would certainly be a compelling story, especially if Alexander is only recently coming back into his father's orbit. This could be the Game of Thrones level of excitement but in the Star Trek universe. And without those awful last two seasons.
