Halloween: 5 of the scariest heroes in Star Trek history
By Chad Porto
It's Halloween season once again, and each year we try to talk about something spooky from the world of Star Trek. Usually, we focus on horror-adjacent properties, or the scariest villains and alien species from the world of Trek. Yet, this year, we thought it'd be interesting to look at the heroes who strike the most fear in the hearts of the villains.
Those good few who can be a bit dastardly in their pursuit of justice. The types who want to do the right thing, but by any means necessary. So with that, here are the five heroes of Star Trek that should put a shiver down your spine should you end up on opposite sides of them.
Worf
When you see Worf, he just looks imposing. He's a towering Klingon male who has a love of combat, and a passion for righteousness and isn't hesitant to take a life if it makes things a bit better for all involved. He's a man governed by pride, but as one of the few Federation officers who can kill a Borg in hand-to-hand combat, it's worth noting that messing with Worf is ill-advised.
Jean-Luc Picard
Jean-Luc Picard is the guy that everyone seemingly misunderstands. He comes across as this very reserved, tactful politician of sorts. Yet, when driven to his breaking point the man is capable of great mean things, including genocide. His wrath and rage for The Borg, while not unfounded, should make you realize that Picard's darker tendencies are rare and hardly horrifying seen by the average person. His contempt for those that push him too far is boundless and that is truly horrifying when he usually comes across as so well-mannered.
Odo
Closer to Worf in why he's scary, Odo has strength that's rarely matched by anyone he shares space with. Couple that with his ability to shapeshift and you have one of the more imposing characters in all of Star Trek's history. He has been seen taking it to the strongest aliens in the Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Quadrant in his human form, and knowing he can just shapeshift into an even stronger form if he's being bested just cements how power. Truly a ferocious hero. Then you layer in his sense of justice? Goodbye, you have no shot.
Seven of Nine
Star Trek: Voyager already had two "Spock" characters but they outdid themselves when they brought in Seven of Nine. With all of the intelligence and logic of Spock, Seven of Nine has none of the humanity or hesitation that Spock does. She's ruthless and to the point, seeing a task that needs to be completed and nothing else. She isn't bothered by having to do the dirty things in life, as long as her goals are achieved. She has no problem stranding someone and letting them die, or cooking up powerful weapons that could exterminate an entire species. She was, at the height of reacclimation to her humanity, the ultimate officer.
Elim Garak
Maybe the only character on here who will smile, joke, and enchant you with stories, while he slowly murders you. Elim Garak is the perfect spy and a man who lacks things like shame or innocence. He'll kill a man who's never wronged anyone in their life as long as it settles a goal he has. Being that callous with life can make you one scary man.
