In a whiplash motion, all ten of the classic Star Trek movies are back on Paramount+
Call this a "we have no idea what's going on" moment, but we just reported earlier this month. literally nine days ago, that all ten of the classic Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Next Generation movies had been removed from Paramount+. Now, they've made their way back to the streamer, making fans wonder what is happening.
Yes, we know licensing comes into play, and the movies are still available on MGM with a subscription, but Paramount+ subscribers can now tune into their favorite classic movie without having to add another streaming channel to their ever-growing list of bills.
While this move could have something to do with the Skydance/Paramount merger, it seems likely that Paramount+ realized how much money they were losing by allowing the films to go elsewhere. The retraction of the movies from the streamer might have led to some cancellations from annoyed fans. Of course, this is all supposition, but what else are we supposed to think when the movies come winging their way back to Paramount+ after being gone barely a week? Why even remove them in the first place?
Trekmovie makes a good point, and that's just keep using physical media. Though many will say DVDs and Blu-Rays are going the way of the dodo, at least with these, you can watch a movie when you want to watch it without having to search all over the internet or pay an extra subscription fee. Buying all the movies and series at once would be quite the investment, though. Still, I'd rather depend on something tangible than to try to keep up with the fleeting whims of streaming, especially when it comes to Paramount+. If you'd prefer, though, you can always rent the movie you want to watch which will cost you less than a monthly subscription.
