Paramount+ removes all ten of the classic Star Trek movies

The streaming channel that has billed itself as the "home of Star Trek" isn't really the home of Star Trek. Things began to change when Paramount+ cancelled Star Trek: Prodigy in April 2023. Now, the channel has removed all ten of the classic Trek movies, six from The Original Series era and four from The Next Generation era.

So where can you find these movies now? On MGM, which requires a subscription which is $6.99 per month after a 7-day free trial or $58.99 per year. If you'd prefer, you can still rent the movies on Amazon Prime Video, but generally, one of the purposes of paying for a subscription to a streaming channel is so you don't have to spend extra money to watch the series or movies you love.

All three of the J.J. Abrams' Kelvin Timeline movies are still available on Paramount+, and Star Trek Beyond is available on Netflix until October 31st. Paramount+ also still has all of the series of Trek available. And you can watch all seasons of the classic Star Trek series along with Lower Decks for free on PlutoTV if you don't mind commercials. So, basically, you might have to skip around to find the Star Trek you'd like to see.

So since Star Trek is now being farmed out to other streaming channels, it's probably likely that Paramount+ [or Skydance] will consider licensing some of the series exclusively in the future. Once upon a time, many of the Trek series were available on Prime and Netflix. Apparently, those were lucrative deals, but Paramount+ wanted Trek all gathered in one place. Obviously, that hasn't worked out so well for the channel. So the hunt may be on when you're looking for a particular Star Trek series or movie to watch in the future.
