Who did Rekha Sharma make angry? The fantastic actress, who many sci-fi fans may remember as Tory Foster on Battlestar Galactica or as Kali on Supernatural, popped up in Star Trek: Discovery early on in the show's run. She appeared in five total episodes in season one and season three respectively, and somehow, in that span of five episodes, she died three times.
Someone must not have liked her.
Jokes aside, that may be a record for the most times a character has been killed off in the span of just five episodes. Now, some will push back a bit, as she technically played three "different" characters. The first is Ellen Landry, the Chief of Security on the USS Discovery during the first season.
She was then seen again near the end of season one, as the Mirror Universe version of Ellen Landry. That character died pretty quickly as well, lasting one episode. She then would return as an alternate-timeline version of the Mirror Universe Ellen Landry, where she dies once again.
To me, it's the same character, even if it's "technically not". What's interesting is that her deaths get less outlandish. Her last death she simply is killed thanks to Michael Burnham's tretory. The mirror-universe Burnham, I mean. Her second death, she's left on board the Charon as the Discovery blows it up, killing just as she regained consciousness, following a fight with Burnham. The real Burnham.
The first time she died, however, she got killed by a giant tardigrade named Ripper. Easily the worst alien concept that Discovery invented. What's even funnier is how she died. She tried to contain the beast by shooting it was a phaser rifle, all the while all you needed to do was turn on the lights. You'd think the security officer would have all the details needed in order to do their job.
Yet, here we are. Her death scenes are sort of hilarious and the worst part is that the character seemed cool and the actress playing her is marvelous. Yet, for some reason, we got next to nothing from her, aside from some hilarious, unserious, death scenes.
Sharma is a great actress and if you're looking to see other properties where she flexed her muscles, go check her out in Battlestar Galactica, Smallville or V.
