W A R N I N G: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM SEASON TWO OF STAR TREK: PRODIGY, SPECIFICALLY EPISODE NINE

Star Trek: Prodigy has outdone itself this season, and this is what was in store for viewers all along had Paramount+ not cancelled the series. This amazing season wasn't prepared after the cancellation; it was already in the works. Thankfully, fans still get to see what dedication, commitment, and a love of Star Trek can create.

In season two, there's something for everyone, whether you love Prodigy, The Next Generation, or other iterations of Star Trek. In episode nine of this season, "The Devourer of All Things, Part 1," a familiar characters shows up, and it's even better than his last appearance in live action.

Wil Wheaton returns as Wesley Crusher, a Traveler who last appeared at the end of Star Trek: Picard, season two, to recruit Kore Soong (Isa Briones). This time, we get to see Wesley in action, using his abilities as a Traveler to move through time and help the wayward Starfleet hopefuls.

Wheaton brings a different side of Wesley, both excited and eccentric, prompting Jankom Pog (voiced by Jason Mantzoukas) to question his sanity. But it's Wesley who's been helping Dal and his team of friends find their way to the Protostar and to Captain Chakotay [Robert Beltran]. He doesn't always get things right, and that's the beauty of seeing this side of a character who is a literal genuis.

This was an unexpected but welcome surprise and an amazing shoutout to the fans of The Next Generation as well as Star Trek: Picard. It goes a long way toward showing what can be created with a character who'd barely graced our screens over the last thirty years. And I'm so not surprised that this episode was written by executive producer, Aaron Waltke, as he has penned some of my favorites! Well-done, and I can't wait to see what else Wesley brings to the table!
