Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is a little off from debuting its third season. Set for a 2025 release date, the third season of the critically and fan-acclaimed series is set to be a major one for not just the show but the franchise as a whole. The top dog of the brand, the franchise will grow only as far as Strange New Worlds does.

That means they can't miss going forward. They have to create 10 episodes (hopefully more) per season of banger after banger. They're the only show that has seemingly drawn in masses of new fans, while also retaining the core group of past fans. Not every new fan loves the show, just like not every older fan does either. Yet, it seems to be the best bridge between old and new.

So while the series' third season is far from done, they did debut a quick look at the upcoming season, featuring the crew's core members becoming Vulcans for a short time. It's played for laughs and Anson Mount looks ridiculous with his famed hair sticking straight up, but it got fans excited. That's the intended goal.

Yet there are three distinct things that came out of this weekends San Diego Comic-Con panel that featured the first look of season three.

1. The Gorn are not a pressing threat

The end of season two ended on a cliffhanger, with the Gorn about to destroy innocent lives and the USS Enterprise being stuck in a no-win situation. However that scenario ended, it didn't end up with the Enterprise being in much trouble, if at all. The first look teaser clearly shows the crew unbothered by the end of season two, meaning that the crew likely found a way out.

2. Scotty is sticking around.

Montgomery "Scotty" Scott was re-introduced to fans at the end of season two, making a major impact on the fandom at large. His involvement in season three was largely unknown until we saw him in the upcoming first look, clearly still working aboard the Enterprise.

3. A classic Star Trek character is returning to the series.

Announced during the San Diego Comic-Con panel that featured various Star Trek figures, a classic character will get another shot at the screen. The famed Dr. Roger Korby, from the Original Series episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?", will return in the TOS prequel series, once again involved with Nurse Chapel. This time, however, he'll be played by Cillian O'Sullivan and he won't be so obsessed with androids. We hope.
