There are a few characters from Star Trek: Discovery that we're not ready to say goodbye to yet.

Star Trek: Discovery is coming to an end real soon. The show is, as of press time, a week away from wrapping up its run after seven years. Launching in 2017, Discovery has had an up-and-down series run, turning off a lot of fans, but bringing on a few more than expected. All the while, they forged ahead, adapting and changing themselves as needed to survive.

The show has struggled to remain consistent. A lot of very fair complaints have been lobbied at the show, mostly with season five being dubbed "cliche" by some. While the writing has never been good, and so much of the show is built on the same interpersonal conflicts that plague a CW show, the show has stumbled into creating some of the best characters in Star Trek.

It's why, whether it's through time travel, retcons, alternate universes, or just a continuation of their stories in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, there are three characters we want to see more of.

Rayner

Having joined the cast in the final season, Rayner (played by Callum Keith Rennie), has been the best part of the show. The Discovery's second-in-command, Commander Rayner has brought a unique blend of stoicism and aggression to a major character in the Star Trek universe that we've rarely ever seen before. His arc is an impressive one, but the power behind the character is the actor who portrays him, Rennie. He's one of the better actors in modern science fiction, and as proven in his long career (notably in Battlestar Galactica) if you give him something worthwhile, he can deliver. We'd love to see more of Rayner in future installments.
