Star Trek: Prodigy will return to our screens on July 1st with twenty all new episodes of season two. Along with the complete crew of the now-destroyed Protostar, which includes Dal, Zero, Rok-Tahk, Murf, Gwyn, and Jankom Pog, season two includes Kate Mulgrew now as Admiral Kathryn Janeway only as Hologram Janeway sacrificed herself to save the youngsters and Starfleet. Also onboard the new Voyager is The Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager (Robert Picardo). This is also the season where Captain Chakotay (Robert Beltran) will make an appearance after Admiral Janeway spent all of season one searching for her missing friend and former colleague. And we finally get a glimpse of Chakotay in animated form.
Ahead of the July 1st release date, CBS Studios has released a season two trailer that offers a sneak peek at what Dal and his friends have in store, including being part of a classified mission and some time paradox issues, which will obviously make it more difficult to continue the search for the captain. But, as we all know, that's not going to stop Janeway.
This could be the season that makes a connection that Star Trek: Voyager didn't between Admiral Janeway and Captain Chakotay. Of course, he's still her subordinate so, knowing Janeway, that will be a consideration. The trailer reveals plenty of action, humor, and suspense but no meeting between the pair yet. More than likely, that reunion will come later on in the season. Based upon how it's handled, it could be one of the guiding factors in the renewal of the series as Voyager fans have been on the edge of their seats since the potential for a reunion between Janeway and Chakotay was first introduced in the first season of Prodigy.
Star Trek: Prodigy's return comes eighteen months after the season one finale aired on Paramount+ on December 29, 2022. With so much time between the two seasons, a rewatch of season one is probably a good idea.
