Star Trek: Prodigy season two will release on Netflix on July 1

It's time to welcome back the crew of the brand new Voyager-A with Admiral Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and the Emergency Medical Hologram (Robert Picardo)! After a long wait and a lot of impatience, the second season will debut on the streaming giant, Netflix, on July 1st. According to Trekmovie, the animated series showed up as Coming Soon on Netflix Kids.

Aaron Waltke, the executive producer of Prodigy, shared the news on Twitter/X saying he was proud to confirm the news.

We don't know if all twenty of season two's episodes will be available on July 1st (although I've reached out to Waltke with the question), but this is the start the fans have been waiting for since the first season of the series ended in December 2022 which was then followed by the abrupt cancellation in April 2023. Fortunately, that didn't dissuade fans who mounted an incredible campaign, which include an aerial banner over Netflix Studios, to find another home for their beloved show.

Though Prodigy is listed under Netflix Kids, there are plenty of adults tuning in to see the adventures of Dal, Gwyn, Jankom Pog, Zero, Rok-Tahk, and Murf who will be joining Admiral Janeway's crew after the Protostar was destroyed to save Starfleet. The youngsters weren't accepted into Starfleet, though, but they can work their way towards acceptance by being a part of Janeway's crew where she, along with The Doctor, will mentor them.

One of the big plots of this season will be finding Captain Chakotay who went missing last season. It's already been confirmed that Chakotay will return in season two, and fans of the Janeway/Chakotay romantic pairing are hoping the pair will explore more than friendship as the season unfolds. As series creators, Kevin and Dan Hageman have said, the second season wraps up the series, in case it doesn't get renewed for a third season. However, it still leaves the door open for another season. To help with the streaming numbers, fans need to tune in on Monday, July 1st to make sure Prodigy ranks #1 in as many countries as possible!
