Starfleet Academy adds three Discovery cast members and a Voyager cast member

In surprising news, Starfleet Academy has revealed its newest cast members, and while one, Mary Wiseman who starred as Lt. Sylvia Tilly, doesn't come as much of a surprise, the others do. Both Tig Notaro, who played the sarcastically wonderful Commander Reno, and Oded Fehr, who portrayed the stoic, yet bendable, Admiral Vance, on Discovery will be joining the series. While Mary Wiseman and Oded Fehr will make guest apperances, Tig Notaro will be a regular, and she will be joined by Robert Picardo from Star Trek: Voyager, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Though fans have been asking if Wiseman would be joining Starfleet Academy as her character, Lt. Tilly, become an instructor in season four of Discovery, the remaining three actors weren't even on our radar. But being the Academy is situation near Federation Headquarters, it would make sense that Admiral Vance would be making semi-regular appearances.

Bringing Notaro aboard, hopefully as one of the instructors, is going to add more levity to the series as her dry wit and sarcastic barbs with Commander Staments [Anthony Rapp] did for Discovery. Picardo comes as a total but welcome surprise but is also a little concerning. With him as a series regular on Academy, does that preclude him from returning to Star Trek: Prodigy if it gets picked up for a third season? I'm not sure how much overlap the two series would have in terms of filming and/or recording. And that also begs the question how the EMH is supposed to be in the 32nd century. But I'm sure the powers-that-be already have an answer for that one.

Whatever the case may be, it's exciting to discover that three Discovery actors and one Voyager actor will be taking part in this brand new series. The familiar faces will help ease the transition into a new series and will encourage more fans to tune in.
