Skydance is in talks to purchase Paramount Global, a move that is being viewed by many as a positive one, assuming it goes through. The hope is that Skydance keeps Paramount Global in one piece and continues to build the business up. Every entity under the Paramount banner would then belong to Skydance and that includes Star Trek.

The deal may prove to be great for Star Trek, as a new set of eyes could see it as a brand worth pouring money into. It could also be a bad thing for Trek, as it's an expensive asset, and Skydance may want to tighten the belt strap for a few years while they pay off their debts.

Regardless, change could be a foot and if that's the case, we may be looking at a very different landscape in the matter of a year, especially when it pertains to Paramount+. There isn't a streaming service that has made a profit over the course of its life, at least not one the size of Paramouont+. Maybe Hulu has, but they've been around forever.

Paramount+ hasn't and they hoped to turn a profit by some point in 2025 but that doesn't seem likely, especially not with a pending deal in place to be purchased by a new entity. There's every possibility in the world that Skydance opts to close down and sell off the streaming service service, or at the very least, merge with another provider.

It seems unlikely that the company would keep the service because, in all the talks, there hasn't been much said about the future of Paramount+, which tells me there's a lot of uncertainty there. That doesn't mean it will be shuttered. They have a lucrative deal with Walmart and the NFL, which may provide more than enough income to warrant keeping the service going.

We'll have a better idea of the future of the service after a sale goes through, whoever it ends up being.
