Why fans are excited about the second season of Star Trek: Prodigy is no mystery

The first season of Star Trek: Prodigy ended with mysteries that will unfold in the second season of the series which, as of yet, does not have a concrete release date on Netlfix, although we do know it will air this year. Head to most any social media platform, and you can find fans who are beyond excited about what's to come. And it's no wonder. With all the unanswered questions, new introductions, and a reunion that has been a long time coming, Prodigy is set to deliver its greatest season. Here are just some of the many things we have to look forward to.

The Return of The Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager

If you've already seen the clip from season two, you'll know that Robert Picardo is reprising his role as The Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager. His introduction to Dal and the other wannabe Starfleet cadets sets the scenario for the EMH to become a mentor to the juveniles, and fans of Voyager will remember how much Picardo's character liked to teach.

The Protostar's crew and their bid for entrance into Starfleet Academy

When season one ended, Dal and his friends hadn't been accepted into Starfleet Academy yet, but they were going onboad a ship with Vice Admiral Janeway to be mentored. Hopefully, by the end of season, two, we'll see the crew get, at least, conditionally accepted to the Academy. But we'd still be okay if they had to work another season for it, especially if that means we get another season! In the meantime, though, we're looking forward to seeing the crew's journey toward their ultimate goal.

Gwyn's attempt to stop Solum from entering into a war

Every member of the Protostar crew became warrant officers in training except for Gwyn. Instead, she chose to return to Solum in an attempt to stop the civil war that was coming. Presumably, we'll see her efforts and what life is like on her planet, which is a new one to the Star Trek universe.

The reunion between Vice Admiral Janeway and Captain Chakotay

During season one, Vice Admiral Janeway was on a missing to find the missing Captain Chakotay, a beloved colleague and friend. This will be the season that we'll see the two officers reunite again, and we're all looking forward to the moment of rescue.

Perhaps an answer to the will they/won't they relationship between Janeway and Chakotay

There's been a lot of discussions about the Janeway/Chakotay relationship. Will they have a romance or won't they? Will they just remain friends? Will Star Trek: Voyager fans really be happy with the way things turn out for the couple-that-never-happened? Since season two was written to essentially wrap up the series if it had to, we should have the answers to all of these questions.

And these are just some of the reasons fans are looking forward to the return of Star Trek: Prodigy. We can also include the sheer joy of watching such a talented group of people bring these wonderful characters to life, the overall perfection of the visual effects, and the stellar writing. After season one, we just know season two is going to be better than good!
