WARNING: This post contains spoilers from season two of Star Trek: Prodigh which is now streaming on Netflix.

Star Trek: The Next Generation's Wesley Crusher didn't get a lot of love aboard the Enterprise. Many fans of the series didn't care for the boy wonder who was a genius at practically everything. And Wil Wheaton, who played the teen character, had to endure the brunt of their displeasure. It was hard to find, at that time, someone who genuinely liked Wesley. That has changed with the second season of Star Trek: Prodigy which brought Wesley back in a fantastic way, showing fans his life as a Traveler. Even Wheaton himself was happy with what he saw when he watched the episodes.

In an interview with CinemaBlend, the host of The Ready Room, admitted that he finally wasn't watching himself playing a character while wondering what he did wrong. He was just appreciating and loving the character...just as fans of Prodigy were.

"For the first time in my career, I watched something I did with absolutely no self-consciousness. I wasn't watching one of my performances to see what I did wrong so I don't do that in the future. I was just loving Wesley and the way he was interacting with these kids and the production design and the visual design and all of it. I texted Jen [Muro] and I said, ’I didn't think I could love Wesley more, and I was wrong. I know him in a way now that I never did before. I feel like I get what kids when I was a kid got. I feel like I understand. I can feel Wesley Crusher the way people who love him, feel him, and it's different. I feel him as a fan in a way that I had only felt him as the guy that brings him to life."

This is probably the first time that fans are asking for more of Wesley in a potential season three of Prodigy or even a series of his own. And that's all because the people behind Prodigy knew what to do with the character. He wasn't used as just a throwaway moment. He was given a purpose for being in the show, and honestly, the crew of the former Protostar wouldn't have been able to survive the timeline shenanigans without his help. Wheaton isn't the only one who "couldn't love Wesley more."
