Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Nurse Christine Chapel ventured into previously unknown territory when she entered into a relationship with Spock . The romance had some bumps and didn't last long, with Chapel choosing to grow her career rather than stay aboard the Enterprise. But when Chapel almost died, we were able to see just show much she still meant to Spock. And even though Strange New Worlds is bringing Roger Kirby on to fulfill his part in becoming Chapel's fiance, that doesn't mean there still won't be some feelings both Chapel and Spock will have to come to terms with. And the first look trailer of season three showed us exactly how that is going to happen.
Though Chapel has strong feelings for Spock, she can never fully understand what it's like to be a Vulcan trained to suppress emotions. That will change in season three when Chapel is one of the crew members injected with a serum that turns them all into Vulcans for a mission. We see in the first look trailer that the reversal serum doesn't work, which leaves the away team stuck as Vulcans for the time being. And there's nothing like spending time in someone's shoes to really see what makes them who they are.
Spock and Chapel's relationship is, most likely, over for good even after she and Dr. Kirby go their separate ways, but her time spent as a Vulcan will give her insight into who Spock is and why he struggles so much with being half-Vulcan and half-human. Even without a romance, this mission will provide a connection between the two that they couldn't get any other way. Hopefully, Strange New Worlds will show us how this changes Chapel and helps reconnect her with Spock even if only as friends.
